UAE Indian wins 27.6 crore rupees in raffle, but rejects calls to claim it

Dubai: An Indian from the United Arab Emirates hit a jackpot by winning 15 million dirhams ($ 4 million) in a raffle in Abu Dhabi, the latest addition to the long list of lucky Indian winners.

Sharjah-based Shojith KS won the draw for the Abu Dhabi Duty Free Big Ticket series on Friday, which was broadcast live on Youtube.

Shojith purchased his winning ticket online on April 1, but is unaware that he is now a multimillionaire as he has repeatedly rejected calls from agents who tried to contact him.

“If (our calls) don’t go through, we’ll keep trying. And if we still can’t get in touch with Shojith, we go to his place – we know where he lives in Sharjah,” Richard, who runs the Big Ticket. Raffle at Abu Dhabi International Airport every month, the Khaleej Times reported.

Another Indian expat, Mangesh Mainde, won a BMW 220i in the draw, he said, adding that eight other Indian nationals and a Pakistani won 9 consolation prizes.

Last year, Kerala Indian pilot John Varughese won 12 million dirhams in the draw.

In January, another Keralite from the United Arab Emirates won 12 million dirhams in the raffle prize in Abu Dhabi.

Eight Indians were among 10 people who won 1 million dirhams each in a mega raffle in Abu Dhabi in October 2017.
