A cook has become a multi-millionaire overnight by winning the top prize in Mahzooz’s 66th weekly grand draw.

Indian expat, Rama, landed the 10 million dirham jackpot after matching five of the five winning numbers, which were 3, 16, 19, 23 and 30. Rama, who is Mahzooz’s 22nd millionaire, also the particularity of being the first of Mahzooz. millionaire of 2022.

Rama, 47, says he cried out in excitement when he received the phone call informing him of his huge win. “I had seen my winning numbers on social media after the draw, but I couldn’t believe it until someone called me and told me,” says the cook, who prepares delicious meals for various families in the United Arab Emirates over the past 12 years.

The father of five added: “The joy I felt is indescribable. I lost my appetite and I can’t sleep. This cash prize will allow my children to live a life free from the struggles and hardships I have encountered. »

These adversities include dropping out of school, at the age of 11, to financially support his farming parents by working in canteens and roadside tea and snack stalls.

“I come from a very poor family, and as farmers irrigation was a struggle because of the distance between water sources and our farms. So my parents couldn’t afford to educate me and my three siblings. But this money will definitely help me educate my children and pave the way for them to succeed,” the regular Mahzooz attendee said.

Rama considers the UAE as his lucky charm. “Before coming to Dubai, I worked as a private cook in a travel agency for Indian tourists, so I traveled the world. But I decided to come to the UAE because my friends said it was the place where dreams come true.

“Even when I was unemployed during the lockdown and families were hesitant to hire a housekeeper, I didn’t give up hope. There is always light after dark. I cannot thank the UAE enough,” says Rama.

As an extension of his gratitude, Rama plans to open a small restaurant in the United Arab Emirates and continue living and doing business here. He also plans to donate to orphanages in India and clear his debts with his prize money.

Rama is also delighted to be reunited with his family. “I haven’t seen my family for four years because I didn’t have enough money to travel.

“For the past 12 years, I have aspired to the lifestyle of the families in which I have worked. My dreams were simple: owning a nice house and a car. After working nonstop for 37 years, it’s finally my turn to live a comfortable life and fulfill all the dreams my kids, parents, and siblings ever had. I will forever be grateful to Mahzooz for that.


Mahzooz’s 66th weekly live grand draw also saw 31 winners share the second prize of Dh1 million and 1,651 winners take home the third prize of Dh350 each. Additionally, three winners each took home Dh100,000 in the raffle which includes three guaranteed winners each week. The total prize won in the 66th draw was 11,877,850 Dhs.
