Ireland’s new millionaire comes forward to claim €8.5m lottery jackpot

The new Irish millionaire has come forward to claim his €8.5 million lotto jackpot.

The National Lottery confirmed today (Tuesday May 17) that the first prize winner – won on Saturday May 7 – has officially made contact to begin the claims process.

The lucky winner purchased their Quick Pick ticket – worth an incredible €8,508,720 – from Blanchfield’s Centra store on Main Street in Mooncoin, Co Kilkenny on the day of the draw.

This is apparently the second time Blanchfield’s has sold a jackpot winner, as €6.8 million was won on a ticket purchased from the Mooncoin store in December 2019.

A National Lottery spokesperson said: “It was a memorable Monday at the National Lottery headquarters! We were delighted to receive the call from the fourth Loto jackpot winner of the year who won their 8.5 million euros just over a week ago.

“Irish’s newest millionaire now joins an enviable list of the biggest National Lottery winners of 2022. So far this year we have seen 18 National Lottery millionaires in our draw-based games. We are now taking arrangements for the Kilkenny Lotto jackpot winner to claim their life-changing prize.”

Meanwhile, tonight’s EuroMillions jackpot is expected to reach around €25 million. Tickets can be purchased before the 7.30pm cut-off time for in-store sales, via the National Lottery app or online at
